Rich Williams

Saxophonist Rich Williams has been captivating listeners for decades. Audiences and musicians alike are drawn to his soulful style. His playing and sound possess an undeniable joyful quality that uplifts the room. Equally at home in a wide variety of styles, Rich always adapts to the musical setting and connects with the listener. Within Rich’s playing you can hear the whispery lyricism of Paul Desmond, the soulful and bluesy bop lines of Lou Donaldson, the joyfulness of Cannonball Adderley and the syncopated funk of Maceo Parker. While these major influences can be heard, Rich never loses his own unique individual style and sound. Rich has spent years as an in demand performer throughout the Northeast.  Living in Burlington, VT for years, he was an active part of the music scene as a free-lance musician performing jazz, funk, R&B and soul. He performed regularly with Opius, the Funk Collection, and Joey Leone’s Chop Shop. Since relocating to New York, Rich Williams has become a first call musician and continues to work as a free-lance artist.  Rich has performed with members of Phish, moe, Twiddle, the Greg Allman Band, Floodwood, Maceo Parker and Melvin Sparks. Rich studied saxophone at the Crane School of Music, the University of Northern Colorado and Capital University.  As an educator, Rich Williams is currently the Band Director at Mahopac High School in Mahopac, NY where he has received numerous awards for the ensembles that he directs.
