JOSHUA2 AND THE DARK HORSE BAND

Joshua2 is a prolific visual artist, civil rights activist, and singer/songwriter. His singing career began when he was 5 years old in his family’s historic Pentacostal church in Milton, Delaware, The Mount Zion Holy Church; which his grandfather started in the early 1900’s. His upbringing in Delaware has influenced his unique blend of blues with an infusion of Pentacostal Gospel style that gives standard songs in several genres new life!

While at the University of Delaware and in his adult life, he both acted and sang on stages along the Eastern seaboard from North Carolina to Maine. Internationally, he has performed in Amsterdam, Germany, Portugal, and New Zealand.

Since moving to New York in 2013, he has created a unique blend of  Pentacostal Blues music, Black history, and civil rights storytelling. While performing throughout Harlem and Manhattan in such clubs as Red Rooster, Silvana’s, Minton’s, Lenox Saphire, Paris Blues, Smoke, Ashford and Simpson’s Sugar Bar. he earned the nickname “The Reverend.”  He became musical and recording friends with Harlem favorites Phil Young (son of Lester Young), Andy Story, Patience Higgins, Billy Bland, and Professor Harp.  In 2015, Joshua2 developed, produced, and performed his own show on the stage of Mist, in Harlem; and in 2019, he performed as the MC and sang with the Dark Horse Band at the Peekskill Fall Festival.

His band is comprised of notable musicians Ken Hatfield (lead guitar), George Gray (drums), Gene Torres (bass), and Marcus Persiani (keyboard). They have toured and performed with some of the best musicians and bands known, such as Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Tito Puente, Stephanie Mills, Pat Benatar, Toni Braxton, Ben E. King, Eartha Kitt, Talking Heads, Earth, Wind, & Fire, and Sun Ra Arkestra, just to name a few.

Joshua2 and the Dark Horse Band are returning to Uncle Cheef’s, and are looking forward to having a “wang-dang-doodle” of a night celebrating not just Black History Month, but the history of the country through the music of Blues!
